About this tale
One evening Maya spots her teacher, Miss Eva, grading a stack of notebooks in a lit school window and asks Dad who taught her teacher to write. Dad tells her about people who taught others through the ages - from an ink blot in an old classroom, through beans and a clay tablet, to the first little flame in a cave - and Maya discovers that she is part of that chain, too.
