Long ago, in a great and prosperous kingdom, there lived a king and queen whose happiness was dimmed by a single sorrow: they had no child. For years they prayed and offered gifts to the heavens, until at last a beautiful baby daughter was born to them. Overjoyed, the king proclaimed a grand celebration. He invited all the royal families, noble folk, friends, neighbors, and above all the fairies who, in the days of his ancestors, had blessed newborn children with their gifts.

There were seven fairies living at that time, each gifted with a wondrous power. A splendid feast was prepared for them, with golden plates and goblets set with precious stones. They were also to bestow their gifts upon the little princess, ensuring her happiness throughout her life. But just before the ceremony began, an old fairy entered the hall - one who had long been unseen, for many believed she had passed away. The king ordered a place to be set for her, yet no golden plate remained for the forgotten guest. Feeling slighted, the old fairy looked coldly upon the company.

As the young fairies began offering their blessings, one by one they wished the princess beauty, wisdom, grace, a sweet voice, a kind heart, and a talent for song. Then the old fairy stepped up to the cradle and said angrily:

“When this girl reaches her fifteenth year, she shall prick her finger on a spindle - and die!”

Fear swept through the hall. But the seventh fairy, the youngest, who had not yet given her gift, stepped forward and spoke gently:

“Let your hearts not tremble. I cannot undo the curse, but I can soften it. The princess will not die - she will fall into a deep sleep, and in time she shall be awakened by the kiss of a prince.”

The king and queen did everything in their power to prevent the dark prophecy. A decree was issued at once: spinning and the keeping of spindles were forbidden throughout the kingdom, under penalty of death. Spindles and distaffs were destroyed, yet the king’s heart remained uneasy.

Years passed. The princess grew into a beautiful, wise, and gentle young girl, fulfilling her parents’ every hope and spreading a sweetness around her that no one could resist. One day, on her fifteenth birthday, the king and queen were far from the castle. Left to amuse herself, the princess wandered through parts of the castle she had never explored. Climbing the spiral stairs of a tall tower, she noticed a door to the attic and, curious, pushed it open.

Inside sat an old woman, spinning at a spindle. The princess had never seen such a strange tool before.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“I’m spinning, child,” the old woman replied.

The princess asked if she might try. But the moment she touched the spindle, she pricked her finger and fell to the floor - sinking at once into a deep, unbreakable sleep. The terrified old woman cried for help, but no one could wake the princess. The king and queen hurried back, and the prophecy of the fairy was remembered.

Then the young fairy who had softened the curse appeared at the castle. Knowing the princess must not wake alone, she cast a spell over the entire household: everyone at court - from the ladies-in-waiting to the cooks, from the nobles to the horses in their stalls - fell into a deep and peaceful sleep. Even the fires in the hearths and the breeze in the halls seemed to slumber. Time itself paused, and slowly the castle became hidden beneath thorns and wild roses.

Long, long years passed. In the forest, whispers grew of a mysterious castle and a sleeping princess. The thorns grew so thick no one dared approach, and those who tried often failed - and sometimes never returned.

At last, one day, exactly one hundred years later, a young prince arrived in the kingdom and heard the ancient tale of the princess asleep within the thorns, fair and virtuous, waiting for a brave heart to awaken her. His spirit burned with curiosity and courage. He rode toward the castle - and at that very moment the spell loosened. The thorns parted before him, opening into a clear path lined with flowers, and sunlight reached all the way to the highest tower.

Inside the palace he found everyone still asleep. In the great hall, courtiers slumbered with their arms frozen mid-gesture. In the stables, the horses were stilled as if caught in motion, and the dogs lay dreaming silently on the floor. Climbing the tower stairs, he entered the chamber where the beautiful princess rested - pale, serene, and full of gentle grace. She had slept a hundred years.

The prince knelt beside her, reached out his hand, and kissed her softly - and the spell shattered. The princess opened her eyes and gazed upon her rescuer with tender wonder and gratitude. At that same moment, everyone in the castle awoke. The clamor of life returned, the fires blazed anew, and joy filled every corner.

Soon after, the princess and the prince were married in a grand celebration. Their happiness was great, and it spread throughout the kingdom for many years. And so ends the tale of Sleeping Beauty - a story of destiny, the gentle power of fairy magic, and the patience of waiting. For love, kindness, and perseverance always find their way through even the thickest thorns of fate.
